Ermac can also be challenged in the Warrior Shrine, and a return trip to the Living Forest and exploring the previously unreachable treetops can get you a second fight with Mileena. Doing so results in Kano's death & Jax arriving to take Sonya back to Earthrealm, which'll also leave you an extra health item to use in the final boss fights otherwise they remain in the background of the arena.
Bonus Boss: The player has the option of fighting Kano before leaving to fight Shao Kahn. You can also add Kano in there if you choose to fight him. 
Boss Bonanza: The final section of the game sees you fight Shang Tsung, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn all in a row. His plan never gets very far as he's killed by Liu Kang and Kung Lao before he has the chance to even try, implying he didn't have a chance of success regardless. Big Bad Wannabe: Shang Tsung, much like the main series. Badass in Distress: Sonya is kidnapped by Baraka after the Tournament and by the end of the game, both Johnny Cage and Katana have been captured and can be found in cells just before the final battle with Shao Kahn. Animal-Themed Fighting Style: Liu Kang's fighting styles in this game are Dragon and Monkey Kung Fu. Adaptational Jerk Ass: The same Kung Lao who was once a humble warrior who did not seek the spotlight is now an honour obsessed, ill-tempered Jerk Jock who endlessly teases Liu Kang about Kitana, not to mention buying into Shang Tsung's scheme. the franchise's Developers' Foresight page. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are also unlockable playable characters in the game. Tokens can be found throughout the game which unlock some of these characters in versus modes. Other additional characters include Sonya Blade, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Smoke (whose missions are to be completed in order to unlock Mortal Kombat 2) and Quan Chi. Some are there to aid the main characters, including Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Sub-Zero and Jax while others serve as the game's bosses, including Mileena, Jade, Ermac, Reptile, Baraka, Goro, Scorpion, Kano, Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn. In addition to Liu Kang and Kung Lao, the game features other characters from the Mortal Kombat series. The main characters also have many of their signature moves from the series. The engine allows the player to maintain combo attacks across multiple enemies, and even continue their combos after launching an enemy into the air through a powerful attack or a throw. Shaolin Monks features a multi-directional combat system, which gives players the ability to attack any of the enemies that surround them fluidly. Despite being an adventure game the engine incorporates multiple elements from the Mortal Kombat series such as finishing moves and combos that can be upgraded. The player can control these two characters in either single mode or co-op mode as they venture through several environments fighting enemies. The game centers on two members of the Shaolin Order, Liu Kang and Kung Lao, as they travel through the realms in an attempt to thwart Shang Tsung's plans to dominate Earthrealm.
